CEDAR FALLS – This Cedar Falls physician’s assistant is behind bars tonight facing felonies after cops say he got folks into his examination room and got way too touchy feely for comfort.

On July 10, 2024, Cedar Falls Police responded to a citizen report of sexual assault. The citizen reported the assault occurred during a medical examination.

Police investigated, and they say the results indicated that the citizen was touched inappropriately by a physician’s assistant conducting the exam. Further investigation into the incident led to other victims reporting similar inappropriate contact with the same physician’s assistant.

On January 30, 2025, investigators with Cedar Falls Police made an arrest: 59-year-old James Haag of Cedar Falls is facing the following charges:

– 2 counts of Sexual Assault 3rd Degree – C Felonies

– 2 counts of Assault, Intent to Commit Sexual Assault – Aggravated Misdemeanors

The Black Hawk County Attorney’s Office, Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, and the Iowa Board of Inspections and Appeals have assisted in the investigation.

James Haag is listed as an Occupational Medicine specialist and a Physician Assistant in Cedar Falls, Iowa, at MercyOne Bluebell Road Occupational Health.

According to a document with the State of Iowa, James Haag was awaiting a contested case hearing on February 7, 2025, before the Iowa Board of Physician Assistants.  Haag is a Physician Assistant who practices in Cedar Falls.  In July 2024, Haag practiced Occupational Medicine at MercyOne Bluebell Road Family Medicine. As a part of his practice, Haag provided work physicals to individuals who worked at a business in Cedar Falls. In the summer of 2024, Haag examined four patients for purposes of their employment. Haag examined all four patients in early July of 2024. All patients were instructed to disrobe. Haag conducted these examinations, in whole or in part, without the presence of a nurse or other observer. During the course of examination with each patient, Haag removed each patient’s robe and made physical contact with each patient’s genitals. In some instances, Haag used his hands. In others, Haag pressed his fully clothed pelvic area into the patient’s genitals or backside. Haag also made inappropriate contact with multiple patient’s breasts during the course of examination. In multiple instances, where the patients attempted to cover themselves, Haag swatted their hands away. The board indefinitely suspended his license.
