CLEAR LAKE – A Garner man escaped a frigid fate Friday after he possibly had one too many, drove his Jeep onto Clear Lake and fell through the ice.

At about 9:57 PM on Friday, January 17, 2025, Cerro Gordo county sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a vehicle that had gone through the ice on Clear Lake, and that there was one person inside of the vehicle. When Deputies arrived, the driver was found to have rescued himself from the vehicle. Daniel John Kloser, 68, of Garner was the driver of the 2000 Jeep Wrangler.

Clear Lake Fire Medics and Ventura Fire Department personnel also responded and evaluated Kloser at the scene, but there were no apparent injuries.

After an investigation into the incident, Kloser was arrested for OWI 1st Offense and transported to the Cerro Gordo County Jail. The Jeep was partially submerged in the lake and will be removed at a later time.

Kloser (pictured at top) has already bonded out of jail as he awaits court appearances.
