Boy falls out of pickup truck traveling on Northern Iowa highway; no seatbelt in use, flown to UI hospital

BUCHANAN COUNTY – A boy riding in the cab of a pickup truck without his seatbelt on fell out of the vehicle and suffered serious injuries resulting in a helicopter trip to a major hospital.

On Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at approximately 1:10 pm, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies and Rescue 10 responded to a report of a personal injury accident in the 2600 blk Quasqueton Diagonal Blvd, north of Quasqueton. According to the investigation, a 1994 Chevrolet S10 operated by Sara Raue of Walker was traveling northbound on Quasqueton Diagonal Blvd when the passenger side door of the single-cab truck opened, causing an unrestrained eleven-year-old boy to fall out of the vehicle while at speed.

As a result of the incident, the boy suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to UI Health Care Medical Center in Iowa City.

No other injuries were reported.

This incident remains under investigation and charges are pending.

The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Quasqueton Fire Department, AMR Ambulance Service and LifeGuard Air Ambulance.
