Iowa teen faces murder charge for stabbing young man to death

DES MOINES – An Iowa man is dead from stab wounds to the neck and a youthful teen is behind bars facing a first-degree murder charge.

Des Moines Police Department detectives are investigating the city’s sixth homicide of 2024. On June 11, 2024, at approximately 10:15 AM, Des Moines Police Department patrol officers and Des Moines Fire Department rescue personnel responded to 926 Oakridge Drive to investigate a report of a stabbing incident.

First responders arrived to find a 19-year-old male within an apartment suffering from a stabbing injury.

Lifesaving efforts were initiated at the scene and the patient was transported to UnityPoint – Methodist Medical Center. Despite continuation of those efforts, he died at the hospital.

Police detectives continued to investigate this incident. Witnesses were interviewed, evidence examined, and leads followed, according to police.

Soon thereafter, a 16-year-old male Des Moines resident has been charged in adult court with first-degree murder, a class A felony. Des Moines Police Department patrol officers located the suspect near the crime scene within minutes of their arrival. Further investigation by detectives found that the suspect, with premeditation, stabbed the victim in the neck.
