IOWA CITY – A group of Iowa cub scouts spent hours cleaning up a park and a creek, setting an example for all to follow.
Members of the Iowa City Cub Scout Pack 251 had a wet and wild time during a clean up project on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Court Hill Park and Ralston Creek.
For two hours, Pack 251 – comprised of boys and girls from several east side Iowa City elementary schools – picked up trash in the park and creek as part of a cleanup project. The scouts also met with Iowa City Storm Water Specialist Chad Arp to learn about the City’s storm drain system and the importance of keeping Iowa’s waterways pollution-free.
During the cleanup event, the scouts collected an estimated 30-40 pounds of trash from the creek. They also encountered some of our local wildlife, including a flock of ducks and various species of frogs.
The City of Iowa City is grateful for this tremendous work from these young environmentalists.
