NEW YORK – A jury today swiftly returned a favorable verdict for an elderly woman who accused Donald Trump of attacking her in a dressing room back in the 1990’s.
Donald Trump must pay E. Jean Carroll $5 million for sexual abuse and defamation, after a New York City jury of 9 persons heard the weeks-long case. Â The jury rejected a rape allegation, however. Â Carroll was able to sue Trump due to a new law in New York enacted in 2022, allowing alleged victims of abuse an opportunity to sue their alleged attacker. Trump claimed in Ireland he would appear and testify – then never showed up.
After the verdict was announced today, Trump seemed enraged and took to his social media account. He claimed he has “absolutely no idea who this woman is” even though he pointed her out on a photo during a deposition and said it was his wife.
“Greatest witch hunt of all time!” Trump exclaimed.
Trump is running for President of the United States. He is due for a CNN town hall event Tuesday night at 8 p.m. ET; he will take questions from New Hampshire Republicans and undeclared voters. Reportedly, he will be in Iowa campaigning this weekend.
