Northern Iowa couple dies in van-train collision

BUTLER COUNTY – A Northern Iowa husband and wife were killed in a van-train collision in Butler county.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident occurred on Wednesday, July 27, 2022. At 9:29 PM that evening, a 2014 Chrysler Town and Country van driven by 70-year-old Joe Sult of Allison was southbound on County Road T-47 at an intersection with a railroad crossing at Pioneer Place, outside Greene. The van collided with a train at this location.

As a result of the accident, Joe Sult and 68-year-old Rosemary Sult were killed.

Assisting the Iowa State Patrol were the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, Greene Ambulance and Fire and Rescue, Clarksville Ambulance, Butler County Medical Examiner, and Iowa Northern Railroad.
