WASHINGTON, D.C. – Iowa Republican Congresswoman Ashley Hinson this week gleefully took credit for President Joe Biden’s infrastructure bill after voting “NO” and calling it socialism and is now the butt of jokes nationwide for her flip-flop.
Democrats in the U.S. House and Senate passed a massive $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill last November, which President Joe Biden signed into law. Iowa Congresswoman Ashley Hinson attacked the infrastructure bill before it became law, calling it “socialist” and “spending at its worst.”
Now that the bill is signed, Iowa stands to rake in $830 million for its crumbing bridges, roads, communications and more. The dollars are rolling in, and Ashley Hinson has made national news and has become a Twitter punching bag after revealing herself as a massive hypocrite by attempting to take credit for a bill she opposed.
“We secured $829 million in federal funding to upgrade locks & dams along the Upper Mississippi River,” Ashley Hinson gleefully tweeted this week in praising the work Democrats and Joe Biden put in to rebuild America. “This is game-changing for Iowa’s agriculture industry & our Mississippi River communities!”
Hinson is being ridiculed across America in national publications and social media for her hypocrisy and is stumbling in efforts to explain herself and her “NO” vote for Iowans. She told an Iowa radio station in the wake of her shame that “I support … infrastructure investments like this one” even though she never actually supported the bill at all.
Iowa has around 4,500 structurally deficient bridges, but Hinson didn’t try to secure funding to fix them, and voted against this bill which will bring upwards of $830 million to Iowa to fix its disgraceful infrastructure.
