Mason City man faces trial July 15 in alleged shooting of woman

FOREST CITY – A Mason City man will face a jury trial on July 15 on a number of charges – including drug possession – related to a shooting incident that occurred in Forest City earlier this year.

Norris Hughes Junior, age 29, has now been charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm; reckless use of a firearm resulting in injury; child endangerment; possession of meth and possession of marijuana.

The charges stem from an incident on February 24, 2015, when a woman suffered a gunshot wound.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office reported that at about 4:34 PM Tuesday, February 24, deputies responded to a report of gunshots at a rural Forest City residence. A 26-year-old woman sustained a non-fatal wound to the leg in the incident. She was taken to Mercy Hospital in Mason City for treatment of her injury. At the scene, deputies arrested Hughes, who claims via social media to live in Mason City and have a girlfriend who is 26 years old.

Hughes has been from on bond since February 28 as he awaits trial.
