NIACC women ranked seventh in latest poll

niacc_trojans_logoMASON CITY – The NIACC women’s basketball team is ranked seventh in the NJCAA Division II poll released Wednesday.

NIACC (10-3 overall) was ranked seventh in the preseason poll and was ranked second in the Dec. 3, Dec. 10 and Dec. 17 polls. The Lady Trojans were 1-2 and placed seventh at the Illinois Central holiday tournament in late December.

It’s the 16th consecutive poll that the NIACC women have been ranked in the top 10. The Lady Trojans entered the polls in the 2013-14 season at No. 3 in the second poll of the season and remained in the top three for the remainder of the season.

Last season, the NIACC women were ranked No. 1 in seven polls, spent three weeks at No. 2 and one week at No. 3.

The top 6 in this week’s poll are Johnson County CC (15-0), Parkland College (15-1), Owens CC (14-1), Kirkwood (11-4), Illinois Central (14-2), and Monroe CC (13-1).

NIACC’s game against the Grand View junior varsity slated for Wednesday was canceled due to inclement weather. The Lady Trojans return to action Saturday at home against Kirkwood in their ICCAC opener.

Last season, NIACC swept Kirkwood on its way to a perfect 16-0 record in the ICCAC. The Lady Trojans topped Kirkwood 115-111 in overtime in the highest scoring game in NJCAA Division II history and stopped the Eagles 90-87.
