WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded a total of $7,067,210 to four Iowa airports for various rehabilitation and planning projects. Harkin is a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and the subcommittee that funds the DOT.

“Ensuring Iowa’s airports have the resources they need to update, repair, or replace their facilities is important to maintain safety and efficiency of operations,” said Harkin. “The funding announced today will help ensure that several airports across the state are well-equipped. I congratulate them on this competitive funding.”

Details of the funding are as follows:

Cedar Rapids Airport– $6,051,490 to renovate the main terminal lobby ticketing, waiting, and baggage claim areas to improve passenger circulation and operation.

Fort Dodge Regional Airport– $450,000 to rehabilitate a runway.

LeMars Municipal Airport– $50,839 to design the rehabilitation of the existing terminal apron pavement.

Shenandoah Municipal Airport– $514,881 to reconstruct the taxiway and eliminate the need for aircraft to back-taxi on the runway. During this phase a 1,320 foot section of the parallel taxiway will be constructed from the apron to the Runway 30 end.
