MASON CITY – A Mason City man went to the hospital after a one-car accident early Wednesday morning.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office reported this morning that deputies responded to a single-vehicle accident near the intersection of 310th Street and Grouse Avenue at about 2:25 AM.

The driver of the vehicle, 22-year-old Zachary Smith of Mason City, drove off the curve northbound and rolled his vehicle several times, landing in about two feet of standing water in the northeast ditch. The Clear Lake Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to remove Smith from the vehicle. Mercy Medical Center Air Life also assisted. Smith was transported to Mercy Medical Center North Iowa by Mason City Fire Medics.

The accident is still under investigation.

  1. The Police really need to patrol this area more often, Trust me. I’ve almost got plowed into a few times because of erratic driving!
