AMES, Iowa – Iowa State senior DeAndre Kane has been named Big 12 Player of the Week for the second time in as many weeks. It is his fourth overall weekly accolade, after twice being named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week. Kansas State’s Marcus Foster earned this week’s newcomer of the week honor.
Kane helped Iowa State tie a school record with its 13th consecutive win as the Cyclones defeated Northern Illinois (99-63) and won at Texas Tech (73-62). The senior guard opened the week by narrowly missing a triple-double when he finished with 16 points, a season-high 12 assists and eight rebounds against NIU. He followed that with 15 points, six assists and two boards in the victory in Lubbock. Kane shot 61.5 percent from the field in two games while making 14-of-21 (.667) free throws. He also totaled six steals in the two outings.
No. 9 Iowa State hosts No. 7 Baylor Tuesday night at Hilton Coliseum. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. with the game being televised by ESPN2.
