Women’s basketball

What’s next: The NIACC women’s basketball team hosts DMACC (5-2 overall) at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the NIACC in its ICCAC opener.

Last time out: NIACC (5-0 overall) stopped the Rochester Community and Technical College 86-51 last Wednesday. Sophomore Chelsey Jacox (Plymouth, Minn.) led the Lady Trojans with a season-high 30 points.

Leading the way: Scoring – Jacox 22.6; Cortni Rush (Mason City, Ia.) 17.2; Lataeeka Thompson (Burnsville, Minn.) 15.2; Kadejah Young (Minneapolis) 14.2. Last time out: NIACC (6-1 overall) stopped the Association Free Lutheran Bible School 92-64 on Saturday. Freshman reserve Jason Kay (Mason City, Ia.) led the Trojans with a career-high 20 points, including 6 3-point goals.

Wrestling

What’s next: The No. 4 NIACC wrestling team competes in the Coe College Invitational on Saturday.

Last time out: NIACC crowned a pair of champions in the freshman division at the Luther College Open last Saturday.

Nosomy Pozo (Miami, Fla.) won the 149-pound division and Yoanse Mejias (Miami, Fla.) won the 157-pound division. Pozo and Mejias both also claimed titles at the Kaye Young Open on Nov. 2.

Also for NIACC at the Luther Open, Tristian Luther (Verona, Wis.) placed third at 165 pounds in the freshman division and Andy Glaser (Ionia, Ia.) placed third at 184 pounds in the freshman division.

In the rankings: NIACC’s Shakheim Chapman (Gumee, Ill.) is ranked second at 197 pounds and 285-pounder Alex Stockton (Gardner, Ia.) is also ranked second by the NJCAA Wrestling Coaches Association.

Also for NIACC, Zach Welter (Central City, Ia.) is ranked 11th at 133 pounds, Blake Spotts (Nora Springs, Ia.) is fifth at 141 pounds, Sha-Keno Jenkins (Ellenwood, Ga.) is fifth at 149 pounds, Mejias is 10th at 157 pounds and Glaser is ninth at 184 pounds.
