MASON CITY – The Mason City council on Tuesday evening approved bids for several repair projects to the Fire Station on 4th Street SW.
The council approved a bid from Dave Adams Construction, Inc. of Mason City for window replacement and insulation on the north side of the building at a cost of $10,580; a bid from Mellman Painting of Mason City for an undisclosed painting project at a cost of $4,625 and a bid from Western Waterproofing Company of West Des Moines for tuck pointing repairs at a cost of $21,567.94.
Fire Chief Bob Platts wrote in a city memo that he had contacted multiple vendors for each project – at least three for each project – and some chose not to submit bids.
Chief Platts also indicated that these projects “should help to lower energy costs and help to maintain the life of Fire Headquarters.”
The projects will be paid for from $35,000 in Capitol Improvements Project funding (CIP) and $1,677.94 from ambulance reserves.
The projects are due to be completed yet this year at the same time that existing concrete driveways will be replaced.

@Anonymous-I would agree that it looks like maintenance work and should probably be done. I guess at least they are trying to take care of the building.
That is something unusual in Mason City.
I think the building is about 30 years old. This looks like it is all maintenance work.
It just seems to me that that building is not that old. Who was the builder?? Henkle again?
