27 Taliban killed, 25 arrested in military operations in Afghanistan

KABUL, Afghanistan, June 9 (UPI) — Afghan police and NATO-led coalition forces killed 27 Taliban militants and detained 27 others throughout Afghanistan, officials said Sunday.

Several military operations carried out since Saturday led to the deaths and arrests, China’s official Xinhua News Agency reported.

Two more militants were killed overnight Sunday at a police checkpoint in Puli Alchin area of Kunduz city, provincial police spokesman Sayed Sarwar Hossaini told Xinhua.

Police found and disarmed a landmine in Sah Darak area of Kunduz, Hossaini said.

About 270 insurgents have been killed, 66 wounded and nearly 80 detained during military operations since the beginning of the month, a report by the Interior Ministry said.
