Court orders return of stolen money to convicted rapist

PROVIDENCE, S.C., June 3 (UPI) — Rhode Island’s Supreme Court ordered the state to return $217.41 to an imprisoned man who raped his estranged wife, who told police he stole the money from her.

The court said because prosecutors dismissed the larceny charge against Jaimeson Rushlow after he began his 15-year sentence for the rape, the money is rightfully his.

The ruling overturns a 2011 decision by Superior Court Judge Kristin E. Rodgers, who ruled the purported victim in the theft was also Rushlow’s victim in the rape charge and denied his motion to have the money returned, the Providence Journal reported Monday.
