SANTA ANA, Calif., April 29 (UPI) — A California man has been sentenced to 61 years in prison for raping his 11-year-old stepdaughter and impregnating her, officials said.
In February, Mariano Castro, 58, was convicted of two felony counts of lewd acts on a child, three felony counts of aggravated sexual assault and one felony count of continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14, KTLA-TV, Los Angeles, reported.
Prosecutors said Castro, of Santa Ana, began sexually abusing the girl when she was 8 and impregnated her when she was 11.
The abuse persisted until the girl was 17.
In 2011, when the girl was 18, she began attending a new church and told her pastor about the abuse, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The pastor encouraged her to report the alleged abuse to police, prosecutors said.
