Las Cruces, NM – On July 8, 2012, United States Marshals were notified by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) that accused child sex offender, Sergio Luevano self-surrendered to U.S. authorities at the Paso Del Norte Port of Entry. U.S. Marshals placed Luevano on their New Mexico’s Most Wanted list in February of 2012.
In April of 2011, Luevano was indicted by a Grand Jury on the charge of Criminal Sexual Contact of a Minor in the Second Degree (Child under 12). Facts of the investigation show that during the month of March in 2010, Luevano did touch or apply force to the unclothed intimate parts of a minor under 12 years of age. Luevano reportedly has been working in a rock quarry in Juarez, Mexico. Luevano’s family was instrumental in persuading Luevano into surrendering to authorities. District of New Mexico, United States Marshal, Conrad E. Candelaria, stated “the Marshals Service for the District of New Mexico is committed to pursuing violent and dangerous fugitives, and nothing is more important than pursuing fugitives that inflict physical and emotional pain on children; due to the tireless efforts of the Marshals Service task force, which is comprised of federal, local, county, tribal and state agencies, this fugitive will be held accountable for the horrendous crimes committed”.
