Gregg Hennigan, The Gazette, Cedar Rapids, Iowa –
Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz said Tuesday that Marcus Binns was no longer on the team when the former running back was cited last week for fifth-degree theft.
“Due to injuries, Marcus Binns has not been an active member of the Iowa football program for over one calendar year,” Ferentz said in a statement. “Following the completion of spring practice, it was determined Marcus is no longer a part of the football team.”
On Monday, University of Iowa Sports Information Director Steve Roe said Binns was a football player and coaches were aware of the incident.
Binns, 21, is accused of changing the price tag on a shirt to a lower value at the Dillard’s department store in Coral Ridge Mall last Friday. The charge is a simple misdemeanor.
