Shooting reported at Ohio high school; one suspect at large

By Richard Fausset, Los Angeles Times –

A shooting occurred at a northeastern Ohio high school Monday morning, with at least one suspect reportedly still at large.

A local sheriff’s deputy told the Associated Press that the shooting was reported around 7:30 a.m. EST at Chardon High School in the community of Chardon, east of Cleveland.

The number of victims was unknown early Monday morning. Sheriff’s deputies and Ohio State Highway Patrol officers were reportedly on the scene.

A mother of one of the students at the school, Teresa Hunt, told Cleveland TV station WEWS that she had been texting with her daughter. She said her daughter told her she heard shots fired, and that there were two shooters involved.

Another student who texted a parent said the shooting took place in the school cafeteria.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reported that at least four students were injured, with one suspect arrested and at least one other being sought by police.

Quoting a “local official,” Plain Dealer writer John Horton reported that three boys and a girl were injured. Photos from the scene showed parents gathering outside the locked-down school.
