LAUSANNE, Switzerland — An improved test method for human growth hormone doping could be in place for the London Olympics in summer, World Anti-Doping Agency general secretary David Howman said on Tuesday.
“We hope to introduce the test this year. It will open a new window in the fight against doping,” Howman said at a workshop in Lausanne, Switzerland.
While the current HGH test can only reveal offences over a three-day period, the improved test can detect misuse for several weeks. The latest test is the result of 12 years of research.
Howman said that WADA was also working hard on a test to detect blood transfusions, but was unable to give a date.
