Rhoads Signs Three Football Recruits

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State head football coach Paul Rhoads signed a pair of junior college student-athletes and another signee who will enroll at Iowa State for the 2012 spring semester and participate in spring football.

Chose Iowa State over offer from North Carolina … attended Hillsborough Community College the past year-and-a-half as a student but did not play football.

High School
Played for the Freedom High Patriots under coach James Harrell … 2009 All-Western Conference National Division first-team kickoff returner … 2009 Tampa Tribune second-team All-Hillsborough County team kickoff returner … as a senior, caught 28 passes for 658 yards and four touchdowns … on defense, had 34 tackles and an interception … returned kicks for the Patriots with nine returns going for 331 yards and two touchdowns … in playoff loss to Countryside, caught 30-yard touchdown pass and forced and recovered a fumble.

Played at Gilbert High School for coach Scott Auderer … 2010 Des Moines Register and Iowa Newspaper Association All-Class 2A first-team defense member … Ames Tribune 2010 Mid-Iowa Football Player of the Year … as a senior, led the Tigers in tackles with 102, including 18 for loss along with forcing two fumbles … led Gilbert in rushing with 1,137 yards and 11 touchdowns … as a junior, led Gilbert’s defense with 106 tackles, eight for loss, an interception and a fumble recovery … recorded two tackles for the varsity squad as a sophomore … also competed in track and field for Gilbert, placing 17th in the Class 2A shot put at the 2011 Iowa High School State Championships … also played basketball for the Tigers.

Chose Iowa State over offers from Baylor, Houston, Kansas and Minnesota … during the 2011 season, recorded 31 tackles, two for loss, 16 pass breakups and a team-high two interceptions for Trinity Valley … helped lead the Cardinals to Citizens Bank Bowl … as a freshman, posted 10 tackles and two interceptions, one he returned 58 yards for a touchdown … played for coach Brad Smiley.

Played at James Rickards High School in Tallahassee, Fla. for coach Maurice Belser.
