Last Mason City Park Board Minutes, from July 13, 2011:

Role Call Present were: Mr. Binnebose; Mr. Pearson; Mr. Diaz and Mr. Appelgate. Mr. Shimak was absent.

Public Forum
Chris Watts, Georgia Hanford Neighborhood Committee, reported, they had looked at Playground Equipment to buy from Washington Elementary School, although, it was included with the sale of the building. Committee is working on Phase 2, for the Park, which will be, lights between the Shelter House & Playground equipment, new Fencing & backstop for Ball Diamond (River City Fence will be contractor), any other monies available will go towards new Playground equipment.
Diane Degan, Central Heights Association asked the Board, if they could plant some trees just west of the playground equipment in Central Heights for shade. Bill/Bob would like to see a Tree Planting Plan, and they will assist in planting the trees.

Board Reports Mr. Pearson passed out Minutes, from the Friends of Mason City Dog Park, dated 7/6/11.

Staff Reports Brian Pauly, reported; Iowa ASA District 11 was held the weekend of 7/9/11, had 12 Teams, 2 up from 2010.
Girls Youth Softball & Tee Ball were successful this year. Pool revenue $58,818.26 for the month of June, $172,656.00 for FYI 10. (167,300). MacNider Campground revenue $18,162.84 for June, $82,852.80 for FYI 10 (57,100). Staff is finalizing 2011 / 2012 Fall Winter Brochure.

Bob Berggren, reported; Pads at campground have been maintained, and rock added as needed. Fire Engine toy, purchased by the Central Heights neighborhood, has been installed. Water pipe repaired at Shelter # 4 in East Park. Cannonball Days went real well. Playground equipment in East Park was painted for an Eagle Scout project by Thomas Gibbons. Shelter # 1 chimney project will be underway after Council approval. Soccer nets have been anchored and the lines painted at Monroe Park. Vandalism with newly planted tree, continue to be a problem at Monroe Park, replacement trees have been donated by Blackmore Nursery and more through the Evening Lions Club. Park staff have weeded and mulched various parking lots in the downtown area. Tree trimming has been accomplished along right of ways and some of the parks. Flex swing mower goes to Council, came in under bid. Big Blue, some people would like No Parking/Handicap/No Alcohol signs put up. Rope swing is down.

Highland Park Financial report ñ Brian Pauly, presented copies to the Park Board.

Consent Agenda Mr. Appelgate moved to approve Minutes dated 6/14/11. Mr. Pearson second the motion. All voted Aye. Motion carried.

Business

Discussion Washington School ñ Ball Diamond ñ Max Weaver was present, to inquire if it would be possible to recreate a ball diamond, since there is a backstop present, and the children in the neighborhood are playing ball there. Bill/Bob will look into it, they have the equipment that could be used. Mr. Weaver will check to see if the Mohawks might have some clay to donate.

Monroe Park ñ Playground Equipment ñ Max Weaver noticed there is a chain seat that only rocks. Would it be possible to put a swing set in, for the children to swing. Park Board will check into (monies).

Adjournment Mr. Appelgate moved for adjournment. Mr. Binnebose second the motion. All voted Aye. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 6:35 p.m.|
