Village Cooperative Residents Elect Officers

MASON CITY, IA Mar 20, 2011 — Mason City’s Village Cooperative residents met March 16 to hold their first annual meeting and to elect officers to head up the group. Those elected include President Ron Norlinger, formerly of Osage, IA; First Vice President Ann Kuhlman; Second Vice President Lowell Hicok; Secretary Audrey Huff; and Treasurer Ron Stroup, all long-time Mason City residents.

Says President Norlinger, “A number of people ñ like me and my wife — chose to move to the Coop from out of town; others are from Mason City. But we’re all gradually getting acquainted with our new neighbors. In fact, one of our residents says we’re becoming Mason City’s newest neighborhood. The wealth of talents and experience here is impressive so we think we can be a real asset to the community.”

Cooperative residents share ownership of the 50-unit 3-story building at 275 N. Taft Avenue. Units are designed in a variety of sizes and configurations to suit the independent active lifestyles of adults age 55 and over. Amenities include a wood shop, exercise room, commons areas and a heated underground garage and private car wash. Occupancy began last fall and only a very few units remain available.

Mason City’s Village Coop is only the third Iowa residential cooperative. The others in Marshalltown and Asbury, Iowa, also opened for occupancy in 2010. All were developed by Real Estate Equities Development, LLC, St. Paul, MN, which has established a number of Midwest cooperatives including one each in Austin and Albert Lea, MN. |
