Burglar apprehended in Mason City

Charles City man caught burglarizing home in Mason City Monday morning. He told police he wanted the copper piping in the house.|On 03/21/11 at 1:52 a.m., Mason City Police Officers were dispatched to check on a vacant residence in the 100 block of 5th St. N.E. after a neighbor reported seeing someone inside with a flashlight. Officers checked the residence and found David Winters (53) of Charles City, Iowa inside. Winters told the Officers he was going to try and remove the copper piping from structure. After checking with the owner of the property, Officers found that Winters did not have permission to be inside. Winters was charged with 3rd degree burglary, a class D-felony and possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor. Winters was held at the Cerro Gordo County Jail on a $5000.00 bond.
