DES MOINES – Today, superintendent of the Iowa Division of Credit Unions (IDCU) JoAnn Johnson announced that she would be retiring effective May 30. The Iowa Division of Credit Unions mission is to safeguard the interests of credit union depositors and shareholders through the effective administration and execution of the laws relating to credit unions.
“JoAnn has been a tremendous asset to Iowa credit unions and their over one million members,” said Branstad. “She has used her expertise at the national level to provide a safe regulatory climate for credit unions to operate and succeed. I wish her all the best as she spends more time with her family.”
Lt. Gov. Reynolds added, “I want to thank JoAnn for her years of service to Iowans. Her attitude is infectious and she worked tirelessly to ensure the interests of Iowa’s credit unions and their members were protected. I want to wish her well as she enjoys her much deserved retirement.”
Johnson said, “It’s been an honor to serve in the Branstad-Reynolds administration and I’m grateful for having been given the opportunity to continue working with the credit union industry. I leave knowing the industry in Iowa is safe and sound and giving Iowans additional options for affordable financial services.”
Gov. Branstad named Johnson the superintendent of IDCU on February 8, 2011. Johnson was elected to the Iowa State Senate in 1994 and served as chair of the Senate Ways and Means Committee for four years, and the Senate Commerce Committee for one year. She was appointed to the National Credit Union Administration in 2002 and served as chairwoman of the agency from 2004-2008. As chairwoman, Johnson oversaw a $150 million dollar budget and was responsible for the day to day operation of 950 agency staff.
Johnson holds a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Education from University of Northern Iowa. JoAnn and her husband, Brian, reside in Panora, Iowa. JoAnn looks forward to spending more time with her two adult children and the grandchildren.
