Chief Deputy Jeff Crooks announces bid for Floyd county sheriff

CHARLES CITY, IOWA – Chief Deputy Jeff Crooks would like to officially announce he will be running for the position of Sheriff in the November 2016 election as an Independent candidate.

Crooks stated, “I want to keep the office moving in a positive direction and continue to educate and train the deputies to adapt to an evolving society.”

Chief Deputy Crooks has been a member of the Sheriff’s office since November of 2004. Crooks graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in April of 2005. He was voted class president by his peers for the 203rd academy class. Crooks started his career as a night patrol deputy working third shift then moving to the evening shift. Crooks then became the investigator for the department and in July of 2013 was promoted to the position of Chief Deputy.

Crooks stated, “My goals for the sheriff’s office is to continue to have a positive working relationship with the citizens of Floyd County.” Crooks also stated, “I would also like to continue to work with the Board of Supervisors on the future of the Floyd County jail.”

Crooks is a 1988 graduate of Charles City High School where he participated in football, wrestling, baseball, chorus and student council. Crooks was a three time state qualifier and two time place winner in wrestling. Crooks was a state qualifier for the 1986 wrestling team that won the state 3A wrestling title. Crooks was a 1st team all-state linebacker in 1987. In 1988-89 Crooks attended Waldorf Jr. College where he participated football and was a two year starter for the Warriors. In 1993 Crooks received his bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Northern Iowa. Crooks then worked for the Pleasant Valley School System in the Quad Cities from August of 1994 to June of 2002 where he taught physical education and coached wrestling and football.

Crooks is married to Kerry Wetherell Crooks and they have four children. Connor, currently a freshman attending NIACC, Kylah, currently a freshman attending Iowa State, Kelsi, a junior at Charles City High School and Chase, a sixth grader at the Charles City Middle School. Chief Deputy Crooks is the son of Ken and Mary Crooks of Charles City and the son-in-law of Dave and Sheryel Wetherell of rural Floyd County.
