Track & Field: UNI wraps up UNI-Dome Open

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa track and field team wrapped up the UNI-Dome open today, coming away with top-performances across the board.

Jamie Lindstrom opened the meet with a huge personal-best for a win in the women’s weight throw. The junior threw for a distance of 64-7.00 to rank herself second all-time at UNI. Sarah Pate finished second behind Lindstrom with a PR of her own, grabbing a mark of 56-8.00.

Lindstrom also won the women’s shot put with Justin Baker following suit with a win in the men’s competition with an impressive toss of 59-1.50. He finished with a season-best in both the shot put and the weight throw (66-0.50) to win both competitions.

Rachel Peth started things off in the running events for the Panthers, finishing with a win in the 60 meter hurdle finals with a season-best time of 8.70. Daurice Fountain picked up his first collegiate win in the men’s final, coming across the finish line with a time of 8.20.

In the men’s 60 meter dash, Raheem Black picked up a big career-best time of 6.96 for the win. Daianera Whitaker continued the streak for the youth on the team, picking up her first win as a Panther in the women’s 60 meter finals.

Black also shined in the men’s 200 meter dash, finishing with a time of 22.38 with a second place finish. Maddie Irmen won the women’s 200 meter dash followed by Whitaker in second, both notching indoor personal-best times.

Dallas Lumpa also finished with his first collegiate victory, running the 800 meters in a time of 1:56.42 for the victory. Lindsey Kite picked up her first win in the 800 meters as well, placing first in the women’s race.

“I was thrilled with all of the terrific performances today,” head coach Dan Steele said. “This was a great tune-up heading into the MVC Championships.”

The Panthers will return to action when they host the 2015 MVC Indoor Track and Field Championships Feb. 28-March 1 in the UNI-Dome.
