Mason City police encounter man with knife

MASON CITY – Police in Mason City were able to talk down a wanted man who brandished a knife Sunday evening.

Mason City Police Officers were conducting a follow up investigation Sunday evening from a domestic assault that occurred on the previous day. Officers were looking for Chad Yarger, age 24, of Mason City for an Aggravated Domestic Assault charge stemming from the domestic assault incident. Officers made verbal contact with Yarger at 1517 North Quincy Avenue, at approximately 5:47 PM.

Through the front door, Yarger told the officers to meet him at the backdoor. When the officers went to the back door, Yarger was waiting for them holding a knife. He was not compliant with the officers initially. Eventually, they were able to talk him into dropping the knife. He was taken into custody without anyone being injured.

Yarger is currently being held at the Cerro Gordo County Jail for the following charges: Aggravated Domestic Assault Enhanced, an Aggravated Misdemeanor; Assault with a Dangerous Weapon on Peace Officers, a Class “D” Felony; and Interference with Official Acts, a Class “D” Felony. He is being held on no bond at this time.
