IOWA CITY – An Iowa prison inmate incarcerated for drug dealing died in prison due to Covid-19.
Jessie Joseph Gonzales was pronounced dead due to complications related to COVID-19 at approximately 4:55 p.m. on January 7, 2021 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Originally incarcerated at the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility, Gonzales was 67 years old at the time of his death.
Gonzales had been serving a 25-year sentence for the crime of Distribution of Schedule 1 or 2 Controlled Substance to a Person Under 18 (124.406[1][a]) from Polk County. His sentence began on February 25, 2020.
