DAVIS COUNTY – An Iowa man has died following a head-on collision in Davis County on Sunday night.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident occurred at approximately 9:27 PM on March 15, 2026, in the 17565 block of Highway 2 near West Grove. Investigators determined that a 2010 Buick Enclave, driven by 61-year-old David Downen of Moulton, Iowa, was traveling westbound in the eastbound lane of Highway 2. The Buick collided head-on with an eastbound 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 25-year-old Kobi Roberts of La Plata, Missouri.

Emergency responders from the Davis County Ambulance transported both drivers and a passenger from the Buick to the Davis County Hospital. Downen, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The other occupants involved in the crash sustained injuries during the impact. Roberts, who was wearing a seatbelt, and a passenger in the Buick, identified as 56-year-old Jesse Smith of Unionville, were both treated for their injuries. The Iowa State Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
