CHARLES CITY – A brand new Chevy Suburban stopped at a stop light in Charles City was rear-ended by a teen driver, causing thousands in damages.
Charles City police say the incident took place on November 24, 2025. At 3:39 PM that afternoon, officers with the department responded to a two-vehicle accident on Main Street and Gilbert Street (pictured at top). Police reported that a white 2025 Chevy Suburban driven by 55-year-old Melissa M. Bollman of Charles City was northbound on Main Street and stopped for a red light at the Gilbert Street intersection. A 2008 Chevy Aveo driven by 15-year-old Charley D. Sweet of Charles City was also northbound on Main Street, approached the stopped Suburban, and failed to stop, causing a collision. The Aveo struck the rear of the Suburban.
As a result of the collision, $6,000 in damages were caused. Sweet was cited for failure to stop in assured clear distance. No injuries were reported.
