December 10, 1946 – October 25, 2025
Sharren Ann Olinger, 78, of Mason City, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Per her wishes, cremation has taken place, and a private family service will be held at a later date.
Born in Mason City on December 10, 1946, to Don and Leona (Stone) Schaffer, Sharren was the youngest of their children. She grew up in Mason City and carried her hometown pride with her throughout her life.
It was in Mason City, over pizza and laughter, that Sharren met the love of her life, William Olinger. The two married in July 1968 in Thornton, Iowa, beginning a lifetime of adventure, laughter, and unwavering devotion. They built their life together in their first home of Clear Lake before settling in Mason City, where they created countless cherished memories together.
Sharren’s greatest joy was being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She poured her heart into raising their daughter, Marchelle, and her love for family only deepened as it grew to include grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
After dedicating her early years to motherhood, Sharren joined the team at Target, where her strong work ethic and bright spirit made her a beloved coworker. She retired at age 62, leaving behind a reputation for hard work and kindness.
Sharren had a zest for life and a love for all things fun and festive. She delighted in collecting Hallmark Christmas decorations, Wizard of Oz treasures, and Elvis memorabilia, each piece a reflection of her vibrant personality and nostalgic heart.
Travel brought Sharren immense joy. She and William shared adventures from coast to coast, standing hand-in-hand on the Golden Gate Bridge during a rare pedestrian celebration, and soaking up the excitement of Las Vegas. She also cherished special trips to Memphis with dear friends, where she could be close to the music and memories of her favorite artist, Elvis Presley.
Sharren is survived by her devoted husband, William Olinger; daughter, Marchelle Hutchins; grandchildren, Dustin Olinger and Tauni Dyre; and great-grandchildren, Lestat and Damien Dyre and Rylee Olinger.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Leona Schaffer, and her siblings, Beverly, Shirley, and Ronnie.
