MASON CITY – Police in tactical gear along with animal control, an ambulance, a white moving van loaded with officers in camo, and an armored vehicle, raided a Mason City house Wednesday morning as neighbors were startled by a possible flash bang explosive.

The incident began to unfold around 8:35 AM in the 600 block of South Adams Avenue. This area is a seedy part of town, overgrown with volunteer trees, weeds, a poorly-maintained park and an alley behind to the west of the street that is barely navigable.  A loud “BOOM” was heard at about 8:35 AM, and a Mason City police cruiser raced east on 6th Street SW and turned south on Adams Avenue and parked in the middle of the road to block traffic.  Ahead of the cruiser, a white van loaded with soldier-like officers in camouflage gear and high-powered weapons parked in a yard and appeared to enter a house.  Other Mason City police appeared on the scene, and an animal control vehicle arrived nearby, as barking dogs could be heard. An ambulance was also on the scene.

Police had what appeared to be a resident outside engaged in conversation at the subject property. The back yard of the blue house had a camper and various other items strewn about. In the front yard, a police rescue armored vehicle was parked.

Over a block away from the raid, the smell of an explosive filled the air as onlookers and motorists stopped to gawk.

A neighbor told NIT, “It was probably a meth lab.  There are weirdoes on that block.  That house has been updated over the past few months.  I don’t know who lives there, though.”

Police have not yet released any information on the incident.

UPDATE: The house that was raided was 638 South Adams Avenue. Records show it is owned by FURLEIGH PROPERTIES LLC. This corporation is owned by Erik Furleigh of Clear Lake, state records show. On the front of the house, to the left of the front door, there appeared to a be a “white tag” from the city with a notice. Typically, this may mean that the house is uninhabitable.

  1. Still no info from police? No follow up story? Did they even find what they were looking for? Kind of strange that there is no follow up story saying what they found or who it was,or what they charged them with. Nothing at all? Sounds like maybe it was a huge production over little to nothing. What a way to spend tax payers money! All the people involved and equipment involved was probably quite costly, I would assume! It appears they came in full force and then left with what? Nothing about that at all!?! I don’t know about any body else, but I think it might have been a huge production that was done over misinformation. Not to mention they injured a resident there! What a load of b.s.!

  2. You say who owns the property but say nothing of the actual people living in the home? Kind of bad publicity for the landlord who probably had nothing to do with this situation. Lots of wording done in poor taste in this article. Plenty of facts not strait in this report.

  3. This “seedy neighborhood” also happens to be the same neighborhood that “NIT” is in. Why would they locate themselves in such a “seedy” place? They could find a much nicer neighborhood I’m sure.

    1. Wasn’t a smoke bomb, but more like a flash grenade, and it hit the resident right in the stomach, crotch and neck as soon as he opened the door. Not sure why they had to shoot it at him if he was opening the door for them. He was bleeding even. I don’t think they are supposed to hit people directly with those!

  4. Mcpd and sheriffs dept are the ones manufacturing LARGE quantities of pure ice/meth and selling it. All the piggies are building new houses. It’s going to funny as hell when they all go down for all the crimes, rico, you name it they’ve done it. Sissy ass piggies are too scarred to be gangster, so we’ll hide behind shinny plastic trinkets and pretend to be good people. Bunch of weak sisters

  5. The neighbor that said it was a meth lab is a straight retard! Couldn’t be farther from the truth! People are so quick to assume stuff when they actually have no clue. The whole thing was quite excessive for what they actually got here. Believe me!
