Adam James Simons was born July 13, 1978, in Iowa City; the son of Terry Simons and Cheryl Baas. Adam grew up in Algona and graduated from Algona High School in 1997. Growing up, he was active in Boy Scouts for many years and was proud to have his dad as one of the Troop leaders.
On February 14, 2014, Adam married the love of his life, Stephanie Walker. He often joked about never having to remember two dates—Valentine’s Day and their wedding anniversary. Adam and Stephanie made their home in Algona, where they raised two wonderful children, A.J. and Emily.
Adam was a dedicated member of the workforce, spending many years working in various jobs, most recently at Snap-On Tools. He was an active member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) Local 1045, where he served as a delegate and attended several conferences and conventions. He also enjoyed representing his union in several community golf tournaments, a testament to his commitment to both work and community.
Outside of work, Adam had many passions that brought him joy. He was an avid NASCAR and dirt track racing fan, spending countless hours watching his favorite races. He also enjoyed golfing and cherished the time spent on the course with family and friends. Adam’s love for smoking meat earned him the affectionate title of “Meat Master.” He loved to smoke briskets, ribs, loins, and pork butts, often spending Saturdays in his garage, perfecting his craft for family and friends. He was so proud of his creations that he often took pictures of his smoked masterpieces. In January, Adam’s joy grew even more as he became a grandpa, a role he was incredibly excited about. His love for family extended beyond his immediate loved ones; his lifelong friendships meant the world to him. Adam was known for his infectious smile, especially when he was with his best friends from elementary school—Nick, Joe, and Mark—who shared a bond with him that lasted a lifetime. Adam greatly enjoyed farming and spent a lot of time helping on the Spear Family Farm. Adam had a big love for the Iowa Hawkeyes and was a frequent attendee of their events, always enjoying the camaraderie and fun of tailgating with friends and family.
Adam died unexpectedly on Saturday, March 1, 2025. He was 46.
