Eleanor Renee Kew, affectionately known as Ellie to her friends and family, passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2024.

A Celebration of her Life will be held 1:00 pm Monday, September 30, 2024 at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St NE, Mason City. Ellie’s family will greet friends beginning at 12:00 pm until the time of her service on Monday.

Born on March 5, 1963, in Austin, Minnesota, the daughter of Wes and Inez Scott, she grew up in Austin along with her six siblings, where she attended and graduated from Austin High School. Her passion for helping others led her to further her education at NIACC, where she earned her LPN degree. Ellie’s career was marked by her dedication to caring for others, first as a home health aide and then in the hospitality industry, where she became a familiar and beloved figure. Many will remember her warm smile and spirited nature from her time as a bartender at local favorites such as the Rose Bowl, Rock Falls Lounge, Champions Bar and Grill, and Dano’s, as well as serving as manager at the Elks Lodge.

In her healthier years, she found joy in the great outdoors, camping and boating in Rock Falls being some of her favorite pastimes. She was active in local pool, bowling, and dart leagues, where her competitive spirit and friendly banter made her a favorite to all. Travel was another of Ellie’s joys, and she relished the opportunity to explore new places, always making time for a bit of fun at the casino where she enjoyed playing the slots.

After receiving her diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis, Ellie and her family became passionate advocates for MS awareness. They participated in numerous charity walks and helped raise both awareness and funds for the fight against MS.

She is survived by Daniel Kew; her children, Desiree Richardson and her husband David Utes, Tyler Richardson and his wife Tamara, Alex Kew, and Chase Kew and his girlfriend Mariah; her beloved grandchildren; siblings, Carol (Dud) Root, Mark Scott (Jill Kanestadt), Steven Scott, Dawn Terry, and Lisa (Tony) Belden; many nieces and nephews, cousins, and extended relatives and friends.

Ellie was predeceased by her parents, Wes and Inez Scott; sister, Edith Scott; and nephews, Jeremiah Belden and Doug Root, who held a dear place in her heart.
