A Time to be Born:
Joyce Lorraine was born on October 8, 1933, to Gaylord and Alice Thompson in Elmore, Minnesota. She was the second child and had six siblings Robert, NaVonne, Darlene, Janet, Janice, and Allan.
A Time to Die:
Joyce passed away on June 23, 2024, after a life well-lived and loved.
A Time to Love:
Joyce and Alvin Landheer married on November 28, 1954, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Earth, Minnesota.
A Time to Plant:
Joy was a stay-at-home mom, her most important job until her children finished school. She enjoyed her time at Miller Pharmacy in Buffalo Center prior to spending numerous years assisting customers with their shoe selections at her sister’s store, The Shoe Tree, in Blue Earth.
A Time to Build Up:
Joyce and Alvin had five children: Sheryl, Mark (Deb), Coleen, Kimberly, and Suzanne (Steve Conlan).
A Time to Gather Stones:
Joyce was a wonderful grandmother to Alyssa (Brad Kemnitz), Erin, Emily, and Morgan and GiGi to Alyssa’s boys — Jace, Asher, and Kenton.
A Time to Laugh and Embrace and a Time to Mourn:
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, June 27 at the First Reformed Church, Buffalo Center, Iowa.
In addition to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, Joy is survived by her sisters NaVonne Pilgrim-Bosma (Ray), Darlene Huston, Janice Sonich (Jerry), brother Allan Thompson (Nancy), sister-in-law Rosemary Thompson Hardy, brother-in-law Dick Zuehlke, Alvin’s siblings Donald Landheer (Linda) and Doretta Logemann. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin, brother Robert Thompson, sister Janet Zuehlke, brothers-in-law Dean Pilgrim, Nyle Huston, and Wallace Logemann.
Joyce leaves behind a legacy of kindness, gratitude, generosity, and resiliency that will forever resonate in our hearts.
A Life Celebration will be held Thursday, June 27, 2024, at 11:00 AM at First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center, Iowa. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
