MASON CITY – A shooting this evening in Mason City near a north end liquor store has left one person hurt and one suspect in custody.
On Friday, June 14, 2024, at 4:57 p.m., the Mason City Police Department responded to a report of a shooting at MidTown Liquor and Vape, 824 North Federal Avenue. Initial reports were that there were multiple shooters involved.
Arriving officers located one injured male and provided emergency medical care. A suspect was also taken into custody at the scene. The suspect was not injured. At this time, the incident remains under investigation and there is an active crime scene at the store.
Police caution folks to avoid this area during the active investigation.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call MCPD at 641-421-3636. Tips canalso be called in to CrimeStoppers of North Central Iowa. Police expect that they will have more information to release about this incident after the weekend, once the initial investigation has been completed. The name of the suspect was not released.
The Mason City Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Mason City Fire Department, the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa State Patrol, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
