Mason City shed damaged by smoldering campfire ashes

MASON CITY - Firefighters in Mason City responded to a 911 call for a shed fire early Tuesday morning.

MASON CITY – Firefighters in Mason City responded to a 911 call for a shed fire early Tuesday morning.

According to Randy Elsbernd, Assistant Deputy Chief of the Mason City Fire Department, on June 11, 2024, at approximately 4:06 AM, the Mason City Fire Department was dispatched for a shed fire at 1804 S. Virgina Ave. following a call to 911 from a nearby resident who noticed the fire. Fire crews arrived and found a fire at the base of the shed and a small fire inside. Firefighters were able to access the shed and extinguish the fire quickly. The shed received smoke and heat damage.

The fire cause was unintentional and accidental in nature started by improper storage of ashes from a campfire.

Emergency crews cleared the scene at approximately 5:24 AM. No injuries were reported.
