Former Mason City woman struck while riding bike, helicoptered to Mercy

HAMPTON - A former Mason City woman was out riding a bike north of Hampton Thursday evening when she was struck by a man driving a Buick.

HAMPTON – A former Mason City woman was out riding a bike north of Hampton Thursday evening when she was struck by a man driving a Buick.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident took place on September 14, 2023. At 7:43 PM that evening, 41-year-old Emily Buttshaw of Hampton, formerly of Mason City, was on a bicycle northbound on Olive Avenue, just north of 180th Street, north of Hampton. She was ascending up a hill on the roadway when a 2016 Buick driven by 73-year-old Ted Porter Hughes of Sheffield struck her in the rear.

As a result of the collision, Buttshaw was transported by Mercy One Airmed to Mercy Hospital in Mason City with undisclosed injuries.

The accident remains under investigation.
