Ankeny gas station robber draws gun, points at Iowa police officer, who shoots suspect dead

ANKENY, IOWA – A robber dressed in black met his maker Saturday afternoon in Ankeny, Iowa, after he drew a gun on an officer who then shot the suspect dead.

According to Ankeny, Iowa police, on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018, at approximately 4:33 PM, officers were sent to Hy-Vee Gas, located at 1710 SW Oralabor Rd, for a robbery in progress. A responding officer located the suspect near Kum N Go at 1910 SW White Birch where the suspect drew his weapon and pointed it at the officer. The officer discharged his firearm, striking and killing the suspect.

Before the reported robbery, at 4:28 p.m., Ankeny police received a call about a suspicious male in the area of the Kum N Go on SW White Birch. The caller reported seeing a male “dressed in black” and it “looked like a gun fell out of his pants.”

As officers drove to the area, they received the dispatch of the robbery at the Hy- Vee Gas on SW Oralabor Rd. One responding officer confronted the suspect in the parking lot of Kum N Go. The suspect was shot by the officer.

Ankeny Police Officers gave medical attention to the suspect until the Ankeny Fire Department arrived. Despite their efforts, the suspect died at the scene.

This investigation is ongoing.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations was requested to lead the investigation of the officer-involved shooting. The Ankeny Police Department is investigating the robbery and assisting the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations at the shooting scene.

  1. …I want to thank the officer for saving the taxpayers money spent for a phony trial, (the perp would have plead not guilty) and the thousands of dollars spent to incarcerate this clown, only to have him released early down the road due to prison overcrowding, and some goody two shoe family lawyer whose mother actually believes her “Johnny” couldn’t have done such a thing!
