Iowa man rescued after he falls into tank filled with chemicals

DES MOINES – A man fell into a large tank filled with chemicals today and had to be pulled out with a safety rope.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, shortly before 1:00 PM Friday, Polk County deputies were called to Chemorse Ltd., a local business located at 1596 NE 58th Avenue in Des Moines, on medical assist. The caller reported that after hearing a loud splash, a 28-year-old male employee was discovered in a large tank filled with a chemical cleaning solution.

Several employees came to the victim’s aid and were able to raise him out of the tank using a safety rope. Saylor Township Fire/Rescue and Des Moines Hazmat responded to the scene. The victim was rinsed off before being transported to a local hospital. The extent of his injuries is unknown at this time but witnesses stated that he was conscious and alert at the time of the incident.

At this time it is unknown how the victim ended up in the tank of cleaning solution.
