MASON CITY – A Mason City man who brought drugs into the Cerro Gordo County Jail pleaded guilty to a felony charge and a theft charge.
Monroe Brown III, age 24, pled guilty on June 25th to a felony charge of possession of contraband in a correctional facility. Brown was given a suspended five year in prison term by Judge Annette Boehlje, placed on three years of probation and assessed $1,338.50 in fines and fees. As part of the plea deal, a charge of contempt of court was dismissed.
Brown found himself in trouble on July 23rd, 2013, when Mason City police were sent to North Federal Avenue and 7th Street on a report of a male subject walking down the street smoking marijuana. Officers located Monroe Brown III – who then gave officers a false name. He was subsequently arrested on local arrest warrants, including the charge of possession of drugs in a correctional facility (the Cerro Gordo County Jail) and failure to appear in court on a theft charge. He was not charged with a marijuana violation on that police call, however.
The theft charge stemmed from an incident on July 18th, 2013. According to Mason City police, Monroe Brown III stole a Samsung computer tablet from a residence at the 600 block of North Penn. He pled guilty on June 25th, 2014 to theft in the fourth degree, a serious misdemeanor and was sentenced to 2 weeks in jail and assessed $1,167.73 in fines, court costs and restitution. When Brown was arrested by police eon July 23rd, 2014, for the theft charge, he then brought marijuana to the jail with him, leading to the felony charge of drugs in the jail.
Brown is not yet out of the woods in court. He still faces a charge of lying to police from an incident on May 10th, 2014. He faces an August 7th, 2014 trial.

SUBJECT IS INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY
[poll random]
So ol’ MoMo here, “allegedly” steals a computer tablet on June 18, 2013 and finally pleads guilty a whole year and a week later on June 25, 2014. Just think of all the time and money spent on this one case. Its a crying shame and a huge waste of resources being spent on this one guy. This slug now owes nearly $2,500 in fines and I doubt anything levied will ever be paid.
