MASON CITY – “Tim, Jared, Britt and I were all let go,” Bob Fisher told an NIT contact today while learning that he had been “terminated” from his role at KGLO radio, earning numerous awards over the years.
According to sources now contacting NIT, award-winning broadcaster Bob Fisher, the “voice of Clear Lake sports” is out at KGLO radio. A big shake-up is now underway at the radio station, owned by Alpha Media, headquartered at 341 South Yorktown Pike in Mason City.
Fisher has been a fixture at countless city council and county supervisor meetings for years, doing his best to report the news to eager listeners across the northern Iowa area. Evidently, showing up to work day in an day out wasn’t good enough for the corporate suits now in charge at Alpha Media, whom he claims made the decision to clean house. According to a public social media post from Bob Fisher today:
“So sad. Such good people . They gave so much more than just doing a great job,” one local Mason City man told NIT in a shocked message to the NIT newsroom, which, by the way, is not letting anyone go and is full speed ahead.
“Wow,” another long-time listener told NIT.
“Bummer,” another man said.
The KGLO website had stories posted several hours ago, but no updates since then, including an “Ask the Mayor” segment and a Midday Report, both from May 20. Those might be the last ever posted by Bob Fisher. He is still listed as the main contact on the KGLO Facebook page. Who would fill Fisher’s shoes is unclear – it may be no one, as downsizing and regionalizing of content is the new norm.
Even as change impacts the local news scene in the Mason City and Clear Lake area at an accelerated rate in recent years, everyone can agree that the KGLO employees that are now jobless deserve a shot at redemption in new roles in local employment, in some capacity.
Mayor S: The state of local news and weather has drifted away just as the young crowd has from Mason City. What is left is a city who’ and cranky from years sitting on their bottoms doing the same job, no energy is left and nobody cares …aka Band Fest with 8 bands and more cars then floats. Everything is dribbling away…then we vote for the Clown Brown is dist 30 senate race….dead.
This is sad that the true ‘talent’ behind these stations for so many years is just fired. What’s left is talent-less dribble. Hope their ad rates drop…they should.

Couldn’t believe that someone(s) thought Two Guys and a Cup of Joe was a good idea as a replacement! Could only listen to less than 5 minutes of them and turned them off, they do not have ‘It’, just boring, unlike Tim Fleming and Bob Fisher!
1300am has lost Long-Time listeners with this move.
