Nadine Schmidt, 92, of Iowa Falls, passed away Friday, May 17, 2024 at Hansen Family Hospital. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, May 25, 2024 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time on Saturday at the church. Woodley Funeral Home of Iowa Falls is caring for Nadine and her family.

Nadine Joan (Munsterman) Schmidt was born on June 2, 1931 in Terril, Iowa to Esther and Theodore Munsterman. Nadine was the oldest of four siblings. She grew up in Terril where she worked at the grocery store and as a bank teller.

Before her marriage, Nadine graduated from Mankato, MN Commercial College and worked for 10 years at ISU’s Zoology and Entomology Department as Secretary to the State Entomologist. This is also where she met her future husband, Bill. They spent many nights under the streetlights in Ames looking for interesting bug specimens. Following their marriage in 1957, they moved to Iowa Falls when Bill took a teaching position at Ellsworth College.

Nadine was a homemaker in the early days of her marriage, caring for four children, while still finding time to actively volunteer in the community and at church. Her secretarial background was much appreciated by her husband. She spent many hours typing class notes for Bill. Later she worked part-time for Graphic Agra Business.

Nadine was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls since 1959. She taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and was a member of the Naomi and Rebekah Circles. She and Bill were very active in the community as well, delivering Meals on Wheels, working at the Thrift Store and volunteering at Calkins Nature Area. They were also both very involved in disability issues with son, Jeff.

Nadine was a loving mother and grandmother who made the best chocolate chip cookies and loved visiting and having coffee with the neighbors. She had a genuine smile, good sense of humor, steadfast faith, and quiet strength and resilience. She will be so very missed.

Nadine Schmidt is survived by her children: Kim Carter, Jeffrey Schmidt (Rebecca Lynse), Melanie (Tad) Kochel and Lisa (Osmin) Gonzalez; her grandchildren, Aaron and Hannah Carter, Jordan Kochel and Evan Gonzalez; a brother, Allen (Barb) Munsterman and sister, Rita Wodtke; many nieces and nephews and close friends and neighbors who were like family. Nadine was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; daughter, Jennifer and sister, Janice.

Memorial Donations may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Iowa Falls; One Vision, Clear Lake, Iowa; Calkins Nature Center, Iowa Falls.
