
DES MOINES – Operating earnings at Principal Financial Group increased 89 percent to $269.2 million for third quarter 2013, compared to $142.3 million for third quarter 2012.
Principal also reported a third-quarter profit of $245.7 million or $0.82 per share, up from $187.2 million or $0.63 per share in the same period last year.
Operating revenues for third quarter 2013 were $2,315.8 million, a decrease of 12 percent, compared to $2,638.6 million for the same period last year. Third quarter 2012 included a large single premium sale. Adjusting for this, operating revenues were up 9 percent, driven by an increase in fees and other revenue.
Principal is the largest publicly-traded company based in Iowa.

I mean the Principal. Best thing I ever did was to leave. I wouldn’t entrust my retirement dollars to a bunch of financially uneducated people.
This place was one of the worst places I have ever worked. There was constant back-stabbing, and employees promoted didn’t know their @ss from their head. I had a college degree, and my boss had her high school diploma. Needless to say, I didn’t stick around.
