Kay A. (Kentner) Ouverson, 86, passed away peacefully in her home in Northwood, surrounded by family on Friday, April 12, 2024. Kay and Dale will be laid to rest 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at Sunset Rest Cemetery.
Sister was born on the farm near Titonka, IA, on August 9, 1938, and was 2nd of 16 children to Donald and Marian (Haan) McCarthy. Later she grew up at St Benedict, IA, and attended St Benedict Catholic School until 8th grade, then on to St Cecilia’s Academy in Algona, IA.
A funeral service for Emmaline May “Emmy” Sewick, 90, of Algona, will be held Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona.
BREMER COUNTY – A Minnesota man raced through Iowa with a considerable load of weed before cops caught him south of Waterloo and now faces a swath of charges.
Danny O’Donnell, 83, of Thornton, passed away Friday, April 12, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at Woodley Funeral Home in Thornton.

BURLINGTON – An Iowa man already awaiting punishment for dealing drugs tried to sell an undercover cop a t-shirt of meth and now the vice of justice is tightening upon him.
MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota Timberwolves announced the team has converted center Luka Garza’s two-way contract to a standard NBA contract. Garza is a former Iowa Hawkeye National Player of the Year.

MASON CITY – North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) announced the appointment of Joel Pedersen as its new President, effective July 1. Pedersen will succeed Steve Schulz, who is retiring after more than 10 years of distinguished service to the college.
Rep. Shannon Latham announced our hard-working legislators will definitely not adjourn until all their paid days are used up, and that a vigil will be held to remember victims of drunk driving. No word on if Kim Reynolds will attend that.

Burnetta Irene Cummins was born on February 17, 1928, to Arthur and Goldie (Phillips) Guinn of Armstrong, Iowa. She died on April 8, 2024, at the Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong, Iowa at the age of 96 years.
Shirley Ann Kalvig, 92, of Northwood, passed away Friday, April 5, 2024, at MercyOne Medical Center. A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 1 p.m., at Major Erickson Funeral Home.
IOWA CITY – The University of Iowa baseball team defeated St. Thomas, 17-11, on Wednesday night at Duane Banks Field.
DES MOINES – Two babies were surrendered to authorities in March, thanks to a law on the Iowa books giving caretakers an option to leave a baby where they can be safe.
DES MOINES – Gov. Kim Reynolds released the following statement in response to the Iowa Department of Revenue’s Retailers Motor Fuel Gallons Annual Report which showed E15 sales increased 47 percent year-on-year to a record 178 million gallons in 2023.

Shirley Campe, age 87, of Algona, passed away on April 5, 2024 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center. Memorial services will be 11:00 AM on Saturday April 13th at the First United Methodist Church in Algona.
DES MOINES – Samantha Heyer brought the heat in the circle on Tuesday afternoon with 13 strikeouts as UNI softball shutout the Drake Bulldogs by a score of 7-0 at Buel Field in Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) play.
Nicole Ann Richart, age 39, of Algona, passed away on Monday April 1, 2024 at her home with her mom by her side. Visitation for Nicole will be held on Wednesday April 10th from noon until 1 pm at Lentz Funeral Home in Algona.
CEDAR RAPIDS – A Northern Iowa woman who possessed over 50 grams of actual (pure) methamphetamine was sentenced to more than seven years in federal prison.
Barbara D. Kleven, 84, of Mason City, died on Sunday, April 7, 2024. A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 11, 2024, at 10 a.m., at Major Erickson Funeral Home.
