Susan G. Balik, 68, of Protivin, Iowa, died Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at her home.

Memorial Mass will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 16th, at Holy Trinity Parish Protivin, IA, with Father Nicholas Radloff officiating. Come in and be seated at the Church for the services. Visitation and lunch will be held at the Protivin Community Center after the Memorial Mass from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home is assisting Susan’s family.

Susan Gail Balik was born July 26, 1957, in Waukon, Iowa, the daughter of Paul and Coral (Moose) Klees. After graduating from Waukon High School, Susan worked at various stores around the town of Waukon. On December 27, 1986 she married John Balik at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Susan and John resided in Protivin for all 39 years of their marriage. While in Protivin, Susan worked at many of the small businesses in town. She truly was a jack of all trades.

Even though Susan could do many things, the activities she enjoyed most were spending time with family, putting puzzles together, watching Days of Our Lives, and baking.

Survivors include her husband John, her sisters: Nancy (John) Bakula of Fort Atkinson, IA, Janice Shogren of Waukon, IA, and Linda Lou (Philip) Heeler of Savannah, MO; and in-laws: Rita (Jim) Busta of Mountain Grove, MO, Mary Jo (Ken) Panos, Protivin, IA, Eddie Balik of Cresco, IA, Carol (Gene) Winter of Lawler, IA, Joann (Mike) Mrachek of Cresco, IA; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents Paul and Coral Klees; and siblings: Samuel Klees, Sandra McKee, Dixie Keenan, Janet Reinhardt, Daniel Klees, Kermit Klees; and nephew Joe McKee; brothers-in-law: Vernon Shogren, Albert Keenan, James McKee, Donnie Balik; and her in-laws Edward and Helen Balik.

In lieu of flowers make a donation to John and he will distribute to Howard County Hospice, Regional Health Services of Howard County, Holy Trinity Parish, or the Protivin Fire Department.
