CHARLES CITY – A Charles City teen’s car was struck by a bicyclist in Charles City Tuesday afternoon, sending the bike rider to the hospital.
According to Charles City police, on July 1 at about 2:48 PM, officers responded to an accident at the 1700 block of Clark Street. Desirae Jordan, age 17 of Nashua, was driving a 2008 Dodge Avenger when, as police describe, the car was struck by a person on a bike. The adult on the bike was transported to the Floyd County Medical Center with injuries. Police did not release the injured person’s name. Total damage in the incident was $500.

Those bike arrows are going to get someone hurt or killed, you just watch and see. The bikers will think they have the right away just because of some overpriced logo painted on the streets and they will get creamed by a car. Hell, they don’t even pay attention to other cars. Besides, the rain is already washing the arrows away. Wait until we have a winter on them with the salt and plows and they will be gone. Then the idiots on the council will want to spend more money repainting them.
I thought maybe the white markings were there for the Ragbrai riders. After that who cares. Maybe not.
No, the markings are permanent and will have to be re-painted every year.
The thing I don’t get is they seem kind of random. The streets are marked for blocks then they disappear for a ways then reappear. Mostly go east and west and all the lines that are being put down now makes them look worse.I guess it’s okay from the markings that you can hold up traffic by riding down the middle of the street. All a bunch of nonsense
Why are there so many of them so close together? Honestly doesn’t it seem excessive, especially if they paid more for so many?
LVS – for you to lump everybody that rides a bike into a single category of people who think they own the road and don’t watch for cars is ignorant at best. My family and I ride bikes all the time and believe me we obey the laws of the road just like a car. We do not think we own the road and we are always watching out for motor vehicles. We try to ride on bike paths as much as we can but unfortunately we have to ride on the street to get to most of the bike paths in Mason city.
@viking-Maybe you obey the laws but most people that I see riding bikes do not. They ride on the sidewalks, on the wrong side of the streets and shoot through stop signs without stopping. I see it every single day so I would guess that makes you the ignorant one.
Every single day? Are you sure about that! You don’t even leave your house on most days but you see this happening every single day? Ha ha
LVS- Just makes me mad when people stereotype and people seem to do it quite often. Whether they are talking politics, religion or life in general some people only seem to see one side of anything. I do not consider myself ignorant as I am able to see the big picture, both sides of an issue. Just wish people’s views were not so narrow minded. As for the bicycle markings on the street I agree with you, big waste of tax money. Just a feel good for our terrible city council.
LVS is incapable of admitting he can not effectively communicate. You call him out and you get called names.
I’ll tell ya what. Now that there are bike path markings on the streets, I ride right down the center of my side of the street. I do not care who is behind me in their vehicle. If they honk, then they will find out what a nice guy I am in a hurry. The car drivers seem confused; you can almost sense it when they catch up to me in their gas hog cars. They don’t know whether to pass or honk or just slow down. I would say these people better learn in a hurry that this is a Blue Zone now and people on bikes have just as much of a right to be on a bike as the sloths in cars. End of rant.
^^Cracking me up^^
Bet if they had them white bicycle decals plasterd all over the streets like mason, this would have never happened!!!
